Fronius or SolarEdge: premium inverters compared
The two premium inverter brands side by side in plain words: where they come from, warranty, monitoring, optimisers and battery pairing.

Fronius and SolarEdge are both top shelf inverter makers, but they are not two versions of the same thing. They take opposite approaches to the roof itself, and that one choice shapes how they handle shade, what you can see in the app, and what sits on the roof for the next 25 years. Here is each one in plain words, using the makers' own Australian documents.
Fronius
Where it comes from. Fronius is an Austrian company. It builds its inverters in Europe, with its main solar production at Sattledt in Austria.
How it works. Fronius makes string inverters: the panels connect in series and the inverter does all the conversion on the wall. The GEN24 Plus models are hybrids, so they can run a battery. Fronius Symo GEN24 models have two tracking inputs, which lets one inverter handle two roof faces at different angles.
Warranty. Fronius Australia offers a free 10-year Fronius Warranty Plus when the inverter is registered on its Solar.web portal within 30 months of delivery. Warranty Plus covers materials, servicing and transport, not just parts. A paid extension takes Warranty Plus to 15 years, and it has to be bought within six months of the free warranty starting.
Monitoring. Solar.web, a web portal and app showing production, use and battery state.
Batteries. Fronius launched its own Reserva battery in Australia in 2025 for the GEN24 Plus, and its GEN24 Plus also works with BYD's Battery-Box Premium range.
Best suited to. Clear, unshaded roofs where you want a robust European inverter, a long warranty with labour included, and a straightforward layout with no electronics on the roof.
SolarEdge
Where it comes from. SolarEdge is headquartered in Israel and has its products built by contract manufacturers.
How it works. SolarEdge takes the other road. Each panel gets a small box on the roof called a power optimiser, and the inverter on the wall works with them as a team. Each panel then runs at its own best point, so one shaded or dirty panel does not drag down the rest of its string.
Warranty. SolarEdge's Australian product warranty lists 12 years for its inverters and 25 years for its power optimisers. Its Home Battery carries a separate 10-year warranty.
Monitoring. This is SolarEdge's strength. Because every panel has an optimiser, the app shows the output of each individual panel, so a single faulty panel is easy to spot.
Batteries. SolarEdge pairs with its own SolarEdge Home Battery.
Best suited to. Roofs with patchy shade from trees, chimneys or neighbouring buildings, layouts split over several small roof faces, and owners who want to see every panel. The trade-off is more electronics on the roof, one per panel.
The quick comparison
- Shade: SolarEdge handles patchy shade best because of its optimisers. Fronius suits clear roofs, and its two tracking inputs help with two roof faces.
- Warranty: Fronius gives 10 years with labour included when registered, extendable to 15. SolarEdge gives 12 years on the inverter and 25 on the optimisers.
- Monitoring: both have a portal and app. SolarEdge shows each panel.
- Parts on the roof: none for Fronius, one optimiser per panel for SolarEdge.
- Batteries: Fronius with Reserva or BYD, SolarEdge with its own Home Battery.
How to choose
Start with the roof, not the badge. Walk around the house on a winter afternoon and look at where shade falls. If a tree or a second storey shades part of the array, the optimiser approach earns its place. If the roof is open to the sun, a quality string inverter keeps things simple and puts nothing extra on the roof.
Then think about batteries. If you want one now or later, choose an inverter whose battery partner you are happy with, because the pairing is the hard part to change.
Our Premium tier uses Fronius or SolarEdge inverters, all-black panels and up to a 15-year inverter and battery warranty, with fault monitoring included. To find out which suits your home, get a quote and we can talk through the options for your roof.
